Song Lyrics

I was listening to the radio today and when this song came on I immediately connected with the lyrics. I felt like I could relate to the songwriter. I think that is the main purpose when artists write songs with hopes that someone will be able to relate to them. Song lyrics are the written form of art.

Colbie Caillat - Fallin’ For You Lyrics

I don’t know but
I think I maybe
Fallin’ for you
Dropping so quickly
Maybe I should
Keep this to myself
Waiting ’til I
Know you better

I am trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I’m scared of what you’ll say
So I’m hiding what I’m feeling
But I’m tired of
Holding this inside my head

I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
and now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you

As I’m standing here
And you hold my hand
Pull me towards you
And we start to dance
All around us
I see nobody
Here in silence
It’s just you and me

I’m trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I’m scared of what you’ll say
So I’m hiding what I’m feeling
But I’m tired of
Holding this inside my head

I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
and now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you

Oh I just can’t take it
My heart is racing
The emotions keep spinning out

I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
and now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you

I can’t stop thinking about it
I want you all around me
And now I just can’t hide it
I think I’m fallin’ for you (x2)

I’m fallin’ for you

Ooohhh
Oh no no
Oooooohhh
Oh I’m fallin’ for you

Technology as Art

Technology can be viewed as an art form. It is a complex unit of many different parts. We use technology every single day, but we might not see it as actual pieces of art. I was looking online for some pictures and here are some I found...

Football is a culture because...

CULTURE is...
  • Excellence of taste in the fine arts and humanities, also known as high culture
  • An integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that depends upon the capacity for symbolic thought and social learning
  • The set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an organization or group
:the above information is from wikipedia.com:

In my opinion, football is a culture because a group of people get together for football games (rituals) with the same goal and attitudes which is for their team to win the game. For instance, each football team has a different fight song and songs played during the game. Just like America has their national anthem, football teams have their own kind of national anthem per say. Their fans or players of the football team have a costume or outfit they should or normally would wear to this occasion. For these reasons, I think football is somewhat of a culture.

YouTube...a form of art?

People use YouTube as a tool in making videos to express how they feel. I absolutely love this song but this video more importantly is a form of expression..."ART." This video was created by A2 level media studies students.

Human Condition in Art Form

Human Condition
Self Portrait by Frida Kahlo
Frida_Kahlo_self_portrait.jpg image by emilynhr

Wiki states that human condition is, "The human condition refers to the distinctive features of human existence. As finite and mortal entities, there are series of features that are common to most human lives, and some that are inevitable for all." Frida Kahlo is a perfect example of a painter who expresses human condition. Her self-portrait resembles her personal struggles in life, her condition, or state in life.

I'm having a catharsis....

I was driving back to West Georgia from home the other day on 166 which is two lanes. I was in the left lane while a tracker trailer was in the right lane right next to me. We were coming up to a green light when the tracker trailer decided to come immediately over into the left lane so he could turn left at the light BUT he forgot to look before he started coming over. The tracker trailer did not turn on his blinker and the next thing I know was he was getting closer and closer to my car. I had no where to go because there was a car in front of me and behind me and the grass median was basically a ditch. I tried honking my horn over and over but that didn't work. I was beginning to freak out. Where to go? What to do? I was completely terrified. Luckily, I decided to hit the gas as hard as I could, sped up until I was right under the stoplight then swerved around the front of the tracker trailer nearly missing him as he came into the left lane. I had to pull over after that and catch my breath, because I was shocked about what had just happened. After this, I called all my very close friends and family to tell them that I loved them. It just made me realize you never know what is going to happen. This instance put things into perspective for me.

Human Behavior in Art Form

HUMAN BEHAVIOR
The Confidant by Duffy Sheridan
The reason he decided to painting this work of art was to convey human emotion through realism. Just by the look on this girl's face, we can gain a sense of her emotions. His simplicity of the titles of his paintings just show how the emotion is the main point in this piece of art. Emotion is the main driving force of human behavior.

Human Struggle in Art Form

HUMAN STRUGGLE
The Flower Carrier by Diego Rivera
This painting is a perfect example of human struggle, because it represents the workers who struggled during the Great Depression all over the world, because when our market crashed, the worlds economy went with it, and brought hardships to many people. The man is the painting does not enjoy the beauty of flowers or symbolically life because he is so concentrated on working and making a living.

On Graffiti Beat---Art or Not?

GRAFFITI
ART OR NOT?
to me....
IT'S
ART

Art is a form of expression. Graffiti is how someone expresses how they are feeling. What makes graffiti such a debatable topic is because of the places graffiti is found. The most common places to find graffiti is on buildings, old deserted houses, old train cars, subways' walls, and on people's property. Graffiti varies from the simplicity of words to elaborate wall paintings. In most countries, defacing property with graffiti without the property owner's consent is vandalism. But despite that fact, graffiti is STILL art.

My Entertainer of the All-Time

In my opinion, MICHAEL JACKSON should have been the entertainer of the year at the American Music Awards. He has done so much for the music industry and for his fans. Everyone knows his name despite their generation. His impact on music is indescribable. The moonwalk, the robot, 'King of Pop', his songs...Bad, Billy Jean, Beat It, Thriller, just to name a few. He is one of the few artists who have been inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Michael Jackson is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the 'Most Successful Entertainer of All-Time.' Michael Jackson could also beat-box. The common phrase of a triple threat does not even begin to describe Michael Jackson. He was a singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, actor, choreographer, musician, and beat-boxer. All of these things just prove to me how much of a great entertainer he truly was. Michael Jackson, even though he is not with us anymore, will continue to impact generations and generations of people.

Artists in Society

Artists are EVERYWHERE. You may not even know by just looking at someone if they are an artist or not. They might be a photographer, painter, writer, singer, dancer, etc. A lot of my friends are artists, not famous...yet, but still artists nevertheless. Anyone can be an artist in my opinion; anyone who has a way of expressing their self is an artist. Some people may write or doodle in a journal; they could be seen as artists. Society is full of artists...

Art and Film

ART and FILM come hand and hand. Every film has art in it no matter what genre it may be. Art in film can vary from costumes/outfit choices, dance routines, facial expressions, body language, etc. Art, to sum it all up, tells a story. Depending on what outfit a person wears can tell a lot about a person: their mood, personality, intentions. The costume designer had to pick the clothes out with the intention for telling the story which is a form of art. Same thing goes with dance routines. For example, if the producer wants the audience to get the vibe that the characters are lovers, he/she wouldn't have them dancing far apart with no body contact. Instead, they would have them close as possible with the focus on the other character. Without art, film would be bland, boring, and no one would enjoy it. Another example is in New Moon , right before Jacob comes in Bella's room it shows a painting of a werewolf on her wall (foreshadowing Jacob's arrival.) Besides the obvious of it being a painting but it told a story and helped the audience gain a sense of what was to come. Some people may have not caught that as foreshadowing, but isn't that art? People see things differently or not at all! In conclusion, film needs art to be successful.

Art Education in Schools

Over time, art education has been debated over whether it should be taught in schools or not. Some people view art as a 'waste of time' when they could be learning more essential and useful subjects such as math, science, and english. Those same people also believe that art is not needed to be successful in life. So the huge debate is whether art is important enough to teach and spend time on during school? In my opinion, I do not think art is essential and does not have to be taught in schools but it does allow the student to think outside the box. It also helps the student(s) to see things from different perspectives and be open to new ideas, values, cultures, etc. School is all about the usage of the left side of our brain instead of the right side. Art helps students use the right side which helps students become more well-rounded.

Poetry Slam

Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold

The sea is calm to-night.
The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand;
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night-air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

Sophocles long ago
Heard it on the A gaean, and it brought
Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow
Of human misery; we
Find also in the sound a thought,
Hearing it by this distant northern sea.

The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,
Retreating, to the breath
Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear
And naked shingles of the world.

Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! for the world, which seems
To lie before us like a land of dreams,
So various, so beautiful, so new,
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light,
Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain;
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.

This poem is directed towards Matthew Arnold's wife but also can be any women listening to a man's observations. The main message Matthew Arnold is trying to get across to his readers is "Challenges to the validity of long-standing theological and moral precepts have shaken the faith of people in God and religion." He describes how the shoreline looks in the moonlight by using words like calm, fair, sweet, and stand. He also contemplates the movement of the waves by describing the tension and energy they cause. Matthew Arnold calls out to his wife saying how they need to stay faithful to each other and comfort one another. With these qualities, it can fill the void by the disappearing faith in God.

Public Art

PICTURE ABOVE: "I See What You Mean,” by Lawrence Argent at the Colorado Convention Center, Denver

This bear is forty feet tall who peeks into the enormous facility which questions a the relationship between art and technology and also sparks the curiosity of what is inside. “My public artworks are part of a larger whole,” stated Lawrence Argent. “I am an artist that utilizes assorted mediums and venues to engage the viewer in questioning the assumed and provide a vehicle by which stimulus opens a plethora of responses that defy verbal articulation.” Lawrence Argent said that bear was not suppose to be blue that was actually by accident. The bear was suppose to be the colors that resemble Colorado with sandstone colors. The inspiration and reason for making this sculpture was because Lawrence Argent saw a picture of a black bear looking in someone's window in a newspaper article. It gives you the perspective from the outside looking in. In other words, the bear represents a different way at looking at things.

Interview with an artist

I choose to interview Tristan Ervin, a photographer who attends the University of West Georgia. I have seen many of his photos, and I think he is extremely talented. His major is photography and has hopes of opening up his own studio one day. He also plans on traveling the world to take photos.

1)how do you get inspired?
Inspiration: Many photographers take pictures, but I like to embody experiences. How do I get motivated and inspired to do this? I see pictures in my mind all the time; they are my driving force. Not all these pictures are meaningful, but the ones that are, are the ones that inspire me go from potential, to kinetic. This means that I try to physically capture whats in my head.
2)how do you determine whether to do a photo in black and white or color?
Color: It's hard to determine why I may chose a black and white image over a color image. Some pictures look better in color, while others look better greys-caled. What I will say is that most black and white images are that way because it gives the photo a certain mood and feel to it.
3)what does being an artist mean to you?
Being an Artist: I would not consider myself to be an "artist", but most people think otherwise. To me, an artist is a creative someone who is so enthralled and into what they are doing, that it is their main focus in all they do. They live, breathe, eat, and sleep what they do. I haven't gotten to that point yet but I can see myself there very soon.
4)what made you want to major in photography?
Majoring in Photography: I want to major in photography simply because it's what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I want to be well rounded and qualified-this will be better accomplished having my degree in photography.

Human Nature in Art form

See adjacent text.
This painting can symbolize the confusing nature of women. Mona Lisa may have been a courtesan but the other message Da Vinci was trying to get across was that a woman without a legitimate man at her side is incomplete or unbalanced that she cannot be complete without a man. She is nothing without a man in her life. Something that still puzzles the viewers of this painting is her slight mysterious smile and the different columns in the background of the painting. Of the many famous paintings of women, this is one of the most famous and most well-known.

Art on YouTube

A couple weeks ago I got an email from my mother that had tons of pictures of chalk art of sidewalks, streets, and parking lots. The most interesting thing about this chalk art is that it is 3D. It was amazing how real the chalk drawings actually looked. If was definitely an optical illusion. After I got this email I wanted to look more into this 3D chalk art. A famous 3D chalk artist is

Julian Beever. His work is absolutely intriguing and creative. I am not sure how he does what he does. I looked on YouTube to see what were the different drawings he has done in the past. I would LOVE to see the 3D chalk drawings in real life instead of pictures and on the computer... Watch this YouTube to see the variety of drawings from Coolopticalillusions.com

Favorite Artist

My favorite artist has to be....ANDY WARHOL.
A leading figure in the pop art movement, Andy Warhol is also famous and well-known for being a painter, printmaker, author, producer, and filmmaker. Warhol has been the subject of many exhibitions, films, books, stories, etc He is also credited with the familiar phrase "15 minutes of fame." Andy Warhol is my favorite artist because it is completely unique and different with his own style of art. Some of the most famous works of art are the Campbell's Soup Cans, Disasters and Marilyns. He is also known for working with younger artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francesco Clemente, and Keith Haring. He also created two cable television shows, "Andy Warhol's TV" in 1982 and "Andy Warhol's Fifteen Minutes" for MTV in 1986. Warhol made several films which have become classics such as Chelsea Girls, Empire and Blow Job. My favorite piece of art by Andy Warhol is the Marilyns. Not only do i LOVE Marilyn Monroe but I would absolutely love for my picture to be done like this one was. The reason why I am so intrigued by this painting is because of the bright colors, it just draws your eye in and you cant help but admire it.

My Right Brain....My Left Brain

MY LEFT BRAIN:
I am a left brained kind of person, because I am a nursing major who enjoys math and science instead of art or english. I enjoy math because there is always an answer to every problem unlike life problems and questions. Also it is easier for me to understand things when there is a right and a wrong to that situation.
MY RIGHT BRAIN:
Even though I enjoy math and science over art and literature, I think I am more of a right brain kind of person. I lose track of time easily; I am usually late to places. When I do not know what to do in a situation, I follow my gut instinct and base my decisions mainly on my emotions. I would say I am a daydreamer and constantly zoning out in class thinking about other things.

My Photographic Eye :)

The topic I picked for 'My Photographic Eye' is my family, because they are the most important thing in my life.
Mimi and Papa
:they have always been there to support me and no matter what mood i am in, they can make my laugh until i cry:
My Little Sister...Brooke
:she is my mini me; she wants to be just like me all the time. she makes me forget about all the stress in my life and to be carefree:
My brother, Tyler
:he is my best friend; i can tell him anything and everything. no matter what i always have a great time with him:
My Mama
:she is my backbone, my support system, and the one to make me feel like i can do anything. she always believes in me and helps me to see the bright sides of things in life:
My Daddy
:my dad is the one to remind me to live life to the fullest and just have fun. he always makes me laugh and i tend to forget whats bothering me when i spend time with him. whenever i have needed him, he has been there for me:

Why I believe this film is a work of art...

Despite this being one of my favorite movies of all time, this film is a perfect example of a work of art. It displays great technique and creativity with the variety of dancing. Many people will agree that dancing is a form of art. Dirty Dancing is a classic and was the inspiration for my best friend to start dancing. Anything that can inspire someone to do something, in my opinion, is a work of art. Something that displays creative thought and a unique perspective on a situation is art, and this is exactly what Dirty Dancing does. It shows the viewer how people from different backgrounds have their own ideas about dance which makes it art.

...Fashion as Art...

Fashion is an extremely familiar and popular form of art; it involves style, designs, and colors. Both art and fashion use lines, forms, and shapes. Fashion is a way to express yourself and depending on what you wear can say a lot about the person. I guess you could say it tells some type of story, just like a painting or sculpture does. Coach bags always seem to be the "in" thing. No matter what season it may be, the brand Coach and their products are very popular among many girls even women. Each Coach bag comes in a variety of styles, designs, and colors. This is why I think Coach bags are a work of art. Someone had to take the time and use their creative thought (right brain) to make this design on the handbag. Coach is a fashion statement. The purpose of art is to make a statement. Therefore, Coach is art.

I Know What Art Is....

is...
expression
a feeling
creativity
values
experiences
individuality
unique
different
intriguing
breathtaking
thought provoking

Dance.

Dance to me is the greatest form of art. You can express feelings, values, and/or an experience you've been through. In high school, I did guard and we performed different shows. Winterguard, my sophomore year, we did a show on women's rights. Personally, this was my favorite show because the message we were trying to get across was greatly portrayed. Junior year, we did a show about a boy you love going around and being with other girls and after you find out you leave him, because you realize you are a strong woman. Guard is very important to me and I miss it terribly. It was a great way to express how you are feeling at the time. Click on the following link....

I love this piece of architecture...

I love how the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia is sharp, somewhat dangerous yet is simply intriguing and breathtaking. This Cathedral is in Barcelona and is type of gothic architecture, my favorite type. I love how drastically different this architecture looks: sharp and elegant. I would LOVE to visit....maybe one day :)

This music video is a true work of art...

Waiting on the World to Change by John Mayer is one of my favorite songs of all-time and it just so happens that this music video is an excellent example of how a video can be a true work of art. Not only does it show artists and their artwork, the message of this video is a work of art. It is a creative way to express how John Mayer feels about what is going on in the world today.

Diorama Drama

My Diorama:

A diorama that taught me something I did not know:
(picture unavailable) Witch Killings in Nigeria

A diorama that is very creative:

A diorama that really made me think more deeply about an issue:

I oppose the opinion of this diorama:

I oppose the opinion of this artist but I can understand where he/she is coming from:

The artist of this diorama was really bold:

I agree with this diorama:

How did it feel for me as a diorama artist--
1) to create something about an issue?
-I feel like I could express my feelings and make a statement about an issue in a different way besides through words; I enjoyed this project.
2) to have people look and comment on your issue and what you created?
-I was not nervous at all about people talking about my diorama because I knew they would agree with my issue. It is close to a lot of people so they can relate to it.
3)how did the create process make you feel?
-I felt great, because I felt like I got my point across in a unique way.
